Join the Library

Anyone who lives, works, or studies in Luton can join Luton Libraries for free. As a member, you can borrow up to 15 items, enjoy free computer access, and explore a wide range of online services.

How to Join

When you join online, you’ll get instant access to our eLibrary platforms, Overdrive and BorrowBox. Just complete the online joining form and make a note of your temporary membership number and PIN. This temporary membership is valid for two years, but please note that it does not include the ability to reserve physical items.

To enjoy our full range of services—including reserving and borrowing physical items or accessing additional online resources—visit any Luton library with your membership number and proof of identity. A member of our team will be happy to help complete your registration. Once verified, your membership will remain active unless unused for more than three years.

Acceptable identification

We accept most official forms of ID, such as:

  • Bank card
  • Passport
  • Utility bill
  • Bank statement
  • Letter from a government department or recognised local organisation

All documents should be in date, and letters must be no older than three months.

Under-16s

Children under 16 require a parent or carer to sign their registration as guarantor. The guarantor must present either their own library card or valid proof of identity.
