Volunteering in Libraries
Summer Reading Challenge 2025
We’re looking for friendly, enthusiastic volunteers aged 13+ to help with the Summer Reading Challenge 2025, a national initiative run by The Reading Agency.
This year’s theme is "Story Garden", where children will explore magical worlds, mythical creatures, fairytales, nature, adventure, and more — all while planting the seeds for a lifelong love of reading! Children need to read 6 books to complete the challenge and earn their rewards.
What you'll do:
- Chat with children about the books they’ve read.
- Support fun crafts, games & reading activities related to the Story Garden theme.
- Help with library events.
- Encourage young readers to complete the challenge and celebrate their achievements.
Where?
Across all Luton Libraries – including Central and Community branches. Let us know which library you would prefer.
Time Commitment:
A minimum of 8–10 hours across the summer holidays — weekdays or weekends, totally flexible.
Support Provided:
Training will be provided before you begin to make sure you feel prepared and supported in your role.
